The Plant Grow Facility at University of Queensland was awarded the BCA’s 2024 Overall Winner for Excellence in Brick and Block.
Fugen Masonry Queensland bricklaying division proudly delivered the brick façade for the University of Queensland’s cutting-edge Plant Grow Facility, completed in 2024. This six-level research centre is a flagship development in sustainable plant science, featuring precision-controlled environments that support advanced agricultural and climate research. The “garden wall” uses eight different types of bricks, each one matching those found in nearby buildings. Their mixed textures mirror the site’s original contours. The stepped design wraps around the building in large-scale pixels, and the mix of colours gives the wall a distinctive look.
Our work on this landmark project was recognised with two major honours at the 2024 Masonry Contractors Australia Awards: Overall Winner for Excellence in Brick and Block, and Winner of Category 3 - Commercial and Public Building Brickwork. These awards celebrate the exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication demonstrated by our team throughout the project.
